Hello everyone,

All narrative papers have been graded. If you turned yours in on time, you need to rewrite it for a higher grade by Nov. 21. When you turn it in, please attached everything to it. This applies to the book reports, too.

Parents: If you haven’t gone to the attendance office to get a password for the In-Touch program, I would like to encourage you to do that. It gives you access to your students’ grades and attendance.

The 5th roots list is posted. There are helpful hints on how to study for the tests in a message below this one. There is a practice test under “Handouts” if you want to practice. The 5th roots test for all classes is Nov. 19 or 20 depending on when you are in my class.

Per. 5 and 6: We are reading The Odyssey. Please make sure you bring your textbook everyday to class. Your test will be on Nov. 24.

Per. 4 and 8: Please make sure you always have an independent reading book with you in class. The second book reports are due Nov. 19 or 20. The “Book Report” instructions are posted on the right hand side of this message under “Handouts.”

 Per. 4 and 8 are starting the expository paper and watching O Brother, Where Art Thou? which is based on The Odyssey.

To study for the roots test, I suggest that you make flash cards with all the roots.

To study for the spelling part, break the word down so that you find the roots in it. You know that the root part will be printed on the test, so study the part that goes along with the root. If a word is made up of two roots put together, don’t focus on that word as much while you are studying.

When taking the vocabulary part of the test, look for words in the definition that are part of the meaning for the root. If you know all the roots and meanings, the test is much easier. The bottom part of the test is extra credit. If you do not have time to study for that part, simply put A’s all the way down so that you will get at least one extra credit point.
